Beneath the warm sun which shone down upon the whole of Savoy glistened the green waters of the Thiou, the canal which winded its way heedless of the town of Annecy that spread out from either bank. This narrow body of water was, on occasion, crossed by bridges which broke the monotony of calm water. Yet the largest of interruptions of the Thious journey was a work of stone that greatly resembled a ship anchored permanently in the middle of the canal. This was the Palais de lIsle; the former residence of the Lord of Annecy until the Count of Geneva rested there. Now its tenants were of a less willing nature, for by the 16th century the Palais was a jail.
Before this majestic backdrop a contest of skill was being waged between two of the more spirited competitors to ever make sport on the narrow street flanking the canal. No stranger to such impromptu stages, the zingara known as Violetta shook her tambourine and stepped energetically. All of her best efforts were focused towards the passers-by with the hopes of parting them from a few coins that she might take home. However, on this particular day she shared the stage with an unexpected partner. Dark of skin and sporting exotic dress, the lovely Kanasta moved her hips hypnotically, sending the gentle ring of her cymbals through the air while each shake of her ankles made tiny bells to jingle. Her bright green eyes turned to the dancer to her right, twinkling like the water behind them. When faced with the prospect of sharing the stage, the two made wager before the spectators who had gathered to watch them. They all hoped for a moments entertainment, but the way in which the dancing girls strove to best each other kept them at attention. Whoever came away with the most coin would be the winner, and the loser would suffer more than simply the humiliation of defeat. Never let it be said that the triumphant always laugh last, for if the victor so chooses, she has ways of pulling from the loser the silliest of sounds. I was inspired last night by a conversation with And be sure to check out the poll here. [link] Kanasta © Violetta, art & story © Antique Submarine |

The paradox is, her delicious movement causes me the desire to see her lovely form at beautiful Kanasta's mercy.
