No story with this one. My apologies there. But this one is quite nostalgic, as it turns out, and there's a bit of trivia about my childhood to be found here.

When I was young, we're talking around 5 or so, I was obsessed with space. I wanted to grow up to be an astronaut, and I even had planets painted on my bedroom walls. My mom even helped me make a cardboard cut-out of the space shuttle that we attached to the back of a chair. I loved space.

As a result, I also loved space adventures, and I was especially drawn, at that tender young age, to 1950's era space adventure. I saw Forbidden Planet and Buck Rogers before I was old enough to know just what I was seeing. But it left an impression that turned me into the geek I am today.

Back then, laying on the floor in my footie PJs (my spacesuit!) with my legs up on the seat of a chair, a Commodore joystick in my hand, I was waiting for blast off. The backyard was an alien planet, and the neighbor's tree house was a space station. One of my grandpa's old hardhats covered in foil was a helmet, and a toy raygun was a deadly disintegrator.

This is my homage to those days. Back when a little girl could be a hero. Like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers.

I saved the Earth, ya know.

Earth is my heart, and yeah. You save it daily.
:iconjackhavoc:
Sammi darlin', a lot of us saved it along with you. :)

My raygun was the gun from an old Telstar brand home game system (think one step up from Pong) and since my backyard was heavily wooded if was a great alien world to explore.

My gateway wasn't the older stuff, not at first though I totally engulfed them once I found them, mine was my dad introducing me to Doctor Who and Blake's Seven. Then my grandfather hit me with the really old stuff. And finally I got gobsmacked by Starblazers, G Force (the good one without any rodents ;)) and Captain Harlok on tv.

Done. For.

Irrevocably nerded up and glad of it.

So here's to those of us who were backyard space heroes. Who knows how many devious space squirrels might have succeded in their plans against Earth without us. ;)

This looks amazing, love the effects with the space ships shooting and your ray gun shooting plasma, love it all, plus the shuttle blurred in the background is a great idea!

Comic rocks, and I must say you sounded cute at 5.

I used to love space, I would carry a Buzz Lightyear toy everywhere with me, just because of it.

You have no idea how much I've fantasized about those things, Sammi. I used to dream and pretend to be an astronaut or a superhero. Me, I was only five or six when I first watched Batman: The Animated Series and even though I never knew about Batman at the time or completely understood what was going on in the episodes, it still left a feeling of happiness in my heart. Yes, I know those feelings all too well. :)

I like this pic bud! You have caught a great look of movement and flexibility in the costume and in her posture.

I used to break out the Next Generation phaser from the late 80s and early 90s and beam into the backyard, pretending I'm Riker or Worf exploring a Romulan base or something. The big giant monkey tree in the backyard was the radar tower or the escape ship that Tomalok would use to get away in the end.
